Bobby Petrino is definitely a great coach, don’t get me wrong. He’s just not that great of a person.
As a coach, he is very brilliant and led Louisville to an Orange Bowl and has breathed new life into the Arkansas program, including an 11-2 season last year and a Cotton Bowl victory, with an overall record of 34-17.
Anyways, by now, you should know about his motorcycle accident on Sunday. He was driving along and slid through a ditch into some trees and other things. Unfortunately, he wasn’t wearing a helmet and suffered some serious injuries including multiple broken ribs and cracked vertebra.
Then on Thursday, a new story broke. A very interesting side of the story that changes EVERYTHING. Apparently, Coach Petrino had a guest on his motorcycle when he wrecked. A lady guest. In fact, they knew very well. You see, Jessica Dorrell was a former Arkansas Volleyball player who had recently been hired as Arkansas’ Student-Athlete Development Coordinator. She is 25 and, Petrino acknowledged he was having an “inappropriate relationship” with her. The problem with this is that Petrino has a wife and four children.
Personally, I never liked Petrino as a person. He always seemed like a bad person in general. I mean, he met with Auburn officials to conspire against then-coach Tommy Tuberville. Then, while still at UofL, he persuaded a player into not attending a funeral for a friend. He then coached the Atlanta Falcons and left there mid-season causing some damage to the team in the coming years.
And now he’s on a paid leave of absence. Personally, I think Petrino should do what’s best for himself and the program and resign. But he won’t do that. Because, well, hey-he’s Bobby Petrino. What will happen? Only time will tell. That’s a cliched but true statement.
